Pad attaches to the spreader bar and provides a layer of cushion between you and the stainless steel spreader bar. Since the bar pad is attached to the spreader bar instead of the harness, it moves with the spreader bar. This means that when the spreader bar climbs up and over the front of the harness(as it often does when the kite pulls upward) the pad provides the protection you need to prevent bruising and discomfort.
