The launch can be the most diffficult part of flying any kite. It will help if you have a friend walk your kite out about 100 feet from you.
The wind will be at your back and in the face of your helper and your kite.
Have your friend hold the kite lightly by the leading edges. If there is a tail on the kite, extend it fully on the ground behind the kite.
Next, make sure both of your flying lines are exactly the same length and are securely hooked on your handles. When you are ready and you feel the wind is right, signal your asistant to release the kite while you hold the line taut.
Do Not Run! Running is the worst way to launch any kite and prevents you from seeing it and coordinating your actions to it. Let the wind work for you. If the wind is light and the kite is sluggish, you can "pump" the kite to spur lift. Pump the kite by repeatedly pulling back on both lines simultaneously.
Eventually, you will become comfortable launching your kite and a helper will no longer be necessary. You can secure your handles to the ground. This is usually done by looping your wrist straps over a ground stake.
Wind Wizards sells a variety of brightly colored ground stakes for your convenience. Once the handles are secure, you can fully extend your lines to the kite. Attach your lines and place the kite at a 30 degree angle to the ground so the wind pushes against the sail keeping the outstrectched lines taut. Return to your handles and carefully grasp them. Give the kite a swift, even pull towards your waist as you take a couple of steps backwards.
Your kite will soar into the air!
